Don't let anyone put you down
because you are young.
1 Timothy 4:12

Today, people young and old are surrounded by all sorts of influences and experiences. Over the six years that Sidewalk Sunday School has been in existence in Fort Dodge, our message has been one of teaching basic traits of a God-focused life. With everything that goes on in our neighborhoods, our community, our country and the world, this life isn't easy. As a part of our faith, we are called to not only listen to the message that God provides, but to spread that message to others.

But who will listen to us? Aren't we too young to be heard and respected?

This summer, heard the stories of Miriam and the baby Moses. We have also remembered the young and small David and the confidence and support that God provided him to slay Goliath. We remembered Mary and her tremendous faith in giving birth to our Savior, and we learned how Jesus baffled the elders at the temple with what he know at such a young age. These were young people who set out to do what is right. To do what God expected them to do. Age wasn't important - belief and confidence were. Through that faith, great things happened.

In its full statement, the fourth chapter of Second Timothy has a message for people of all ages:
Get the word out, Teach all these things. And don't let anyone put you down because you're young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity. Stay at your post reading Scripture, giving counsel, teaching. And that special gift of ministry you were given when the leaders of the church laid hands on you and prayed - keep that dusted off and in use. Cultivate these things, Immerse yourself in them. The people will see you mature right before their eyes! Keep a firm grasp on both your character and your teaching. Don't be diverted. Just keep at it. Both you and those who hear you will experience salvation.

This is what Sidewalk Sunday School is all about. It's not simply about hearing a good message. It's about hearing, living, speaking, and spreading that message to anyone and everyone with the confidence that God is with us in everything we do.

Because
GOD LOVES ME
GOD LOVES YOU
GOD LOVES EVERYBODY
